Opening the Door for New Types of Analysis

Multi-modality imaging is the use of more than one wavelength of light to capture simultaneous images of the eye. Each image provides unique data which combine to offer clinicians a better, more comprehensive diagnostic picture.

The SPECTRALIS® platform incorporates light sources at specific wavelengths. It is available with various combinations of imaging modes, including Spectral Domain OCT (SD-OCT). This design provides a flexible imaging platform that allows for future upgrades.

 

 

BluePeak – Blue Laser Autofluorescence

 

A New Clinical Endpoint

Without the need for dye, non-invasive BluePeak – Blue Laser Autofluorescence imaging takes advantage of the natural fluorescent properties of lipofuscin. BluePeak autofluorescence captures fundus autofluorescence (FAF) images, providing both structural and metabolic information about the retina.

Lipofuscin is a key component of RPE metabolism. Abnormal accumulation of lipofuscin is associated with a number of retinal diseases. Characteristic autofluorescence patterns seen in BluePeak images can reveal the extent of geographic atrophy (GA). It can also assist clinicians in determining the diagnosis and management of hereditary conditions such as Best’s disease and Stargardt’s disease.

BluePeak – Blue Laser Autofluorescence imaging is a clinical endpoint in studies of emerging therapeutics for geographic atrophy and is becoming an essential tool in the management of degenerative diseases of the retina.

TruTrack Active Eye Tracking

 

Minimizes Motion Artifact

The SPECTRALIS® platform simultaneously images the eye with two beams of light. One beam captures an image of the retina and maps over 1,000 points to track eye movement. Using the mapped image as a reference, the second beam is directed to the desired location despite blinks or saccadic eye movements. TruTrack dual-beam technology mitigates eye motion artifact and ensures point-to-point correlations between OCT and fundus images without post-processing of the data.

TruTrack minimizes operator variability in follow-up scans with AutoRescan and adds precision to the RNFL change analysis.

Heidelberg Noise Reduction combines multiple images captured in the same location, filters out random speckle noise, and retains only data common to the entire set of images. This process retains data reflected from physical structures while mitigating image noise, producing higher quality images with finer detail. AutoRescan

 

Automatic Follow-up Scan Placement

TruTrack active eye tracking creates a detailed retinal map each time a patient is imaged. The AutoRescan feature uses this map to automatically place follow-up scans in precisely the same location as the baseline scan. Once a scan is marked for followup, the AutoRescan tool will find the desired location, eliminating subjective operator placement and increasing clinician ability to observe true change over time rather than change resulting from alignment error. AutoRescan precision has been documented in studies showing that the SPECTRALIS® system offers 1 micron measurement reproducibility.
